My 3rd Book review for Fall! :)

Ok, y'all...I'm feeling QUITE proud of myself since this is the THIRD book I've actually read in just a few weeks...whoohoo! :) This Nicholas Sparks (gotta love him!) book I sorta just sneaked in, it wasn't on my list but that's ok. I have to be "in the mood" for certain books and sometimes you're ready for one and other times you're not. This I just grabbed from the library, I knew it was one of Sparks latest...it was a great read!! I flew through it in just 2 days, I couldn't put it down! I DEF recommend it if you're looking for an easy fiction read...it is by a secular author just so you know.

I don't have very many fav secular authors...ok, like I have 2. Nicholas Sparks is def one of them...Jodi Picoult being another. I have read just about every N.S. book I can get my hands on but there are like 3 I haven't read. In "The Choice" N.S. tells a heart-squeezer of a story of love, joy, faithfulness and sorrow. You will find yourself swept up in the romance of true love as well as moved to tears over love lost. A must read!! :)

"The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all:
How far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?"

Happy Reading y'all! Check out Katrina's for more reviews...

My 2nd book review for Fall!

This is the SECOND book I've read off my list!! Whoohoo, I'm on a roll! :D This book was EXCELLENT...if you are a parent, it is a MUST read!! Please, borrow the book from the library a friend, buy the book...just get it and read it. It will be SOOO worth your time, I promise!

I definitely consider this book one of my top ten life changing books! We heard Dr. Tim Kimmel speak at a Family Life conference and he was fantastic. Joel and I loved his down to earth approach to life, marriage and parenthood...his passion for God and family seeps into everything he says. His book is no different.

I don't normally highlight/underline in books that I'm reading for the first time. However, this was the exception. The first sentence I marked was this,

"We instill a strong hope in our children when we curb our own WANTS in order to
guarantee their needs. By living below our means and avoiding the tyranny
of excessive consumer debt, we free ourselves to provide for these physical
needs and keep our children from having to sense the helplessness of
financial bondage."

Wow! Ever heard a better 'argument' for staying out of debt before??!! Me either. These next quotes are ones that really hit me. There are TONS more that I highlighted...but you'll have to read the book for yourself!! :)

"They need parents who tailor a plan to turn their unique,
God-given abilities into assets, who aren't afraid to lead the way in living a
great spiritual adventure, and who work to turn both their victories and their
defeats into a series of accomplishments."

"With grace, you don't have a chance. Without grace, you
can't find your way. Without grace, you wouldn't matter."

"You have been singled out to do a favor for God. He is
asking you to be His representative to a small but vital part of the next
generation. He needs someone to be His voice, His arms, and His
heart. He chose YOU...'Now go, and give these precious lives
meaning'...The answer is actually not that difficult. You simply need to
treat your children the way GOD treats YOU. He does it in His grace."

My 1st book review for Fall! :)

Yes, I did it!! I finished my first book on my list...it was Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. And let me tell ya, it was a PAGE TURNER, as many of her books are! The setting is quite familiar to me, in the little town of Paradise, PA...Amish country. Jodi weaves a tale of family and love and gives outsiders a little taste of the Amish culture. By the end of the book, you have a greater appreciation for their lifestyle by birth and by choice. You will come away with a broader scope of imagination, that things are not always as they appear. I def. recommend this book (there may be some *words* in this book so there is a qualifier on this recommendation).
