Oklahoma City Memorial

The Monday after the wedding, Edna's cousin Karin and her boyfriend, Dan took us downtown to see the OKC Memorial. It was a truly sobering sight for all of us but something that really meant alot for us to go and see. We were able to stop and remember the 168 lives we lost that day in 1995.

This plaque hangs on the left side of the fence outside the Memorial. Every month it is filled with mementos and cards, etc to remember lost loved ones.

The memento filled fence...

This is 1 of the 2 "frames" or gates that stand on either end of the Memorial grounds. Inscribed is the mission statement for the Memorial. It reads,

"We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those
changed forever. May all who leave here know the impact of violence. May this
memorial offer comfort, strength, peace, hope and serenity."

This is the "field of empty chairs" symbolizing the 168 men, women and children taken from us, leaving empty spaces where they once were.

Especially heartbreaking where the smaller chairs representing the lives of children that were lost. Each name of the individuals were inscribed on the clear glass at the bottom of the chair.
