Detroit handed Pittsburgh its first Stanley Cup finals series loss. They had won their other two appearances in 1991 and '92. -- ESPN.com research, Elias Sports Bureau.
For the fourth time in 11 seasons, the Detroit Red Wings are the Stanley Cup champions. They used experience and grit to knock out the young up-and-coming Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory in Game 6 of the finals.
The Red Wings have now won FOUR Stanley Cups since 1997 ('97, '98, '02 and '08).
Hallelujah, they won! Now back to our regular programing... ;)
