My 2nd book review for Fall!

This is the SECOND book I've read off my list!! Whoohoo, I'm on a roll! :D This book was EXCELLENT...if you are a parent, it is a MUST read!! Please, borrow the book from the library a friend, buy the book...just get it and read it. It will be SOOO worth your time, I promise!

I definitely consider this book one of my top ten life changing books! We heard Dr. Tim Kimmel speak at a Family Life conference and he was fantastic. Joel and I loved his down to earth approach to life, marriage and parenthood...his passion for God and family seeps into everything he says. His book is no different.

I don't normally highlight/underline in books that I'm reading for the first time. However, this was the exception. The first sentence I marked was this,

"We instill a strong hope in our children when we curb our own WANTS in order to
guarantee their needs. By living below our means and avoiding the tyranny
of excessive consumer debt, we free ourselves to provide for these physical
needs and keep our children from having to sense the helplessness of
financial bondage."

Wow! Ever heard a better 'argument' for staying out of debt before??!! Me either. These next quotes are ones that really hit me. There are TONS more that I highlighted...but you'll have to read the book for yourself!! :)

"They need parents who tailor a plan to turn their unique,
God-given abilities into assets, who aren't afraid to lead the way in living a
great spiritual adventure, and who work to turn both their victories and their
defeats into a series of accomplishments."

"With grace, you don't have a chance. Without grace, you
can't find your way. Without grace, you wouldn't matter."

"You have been singled out to do a favor for God. He is
asking you to be His representative to a small but vital part of the next
generation. He needs someone to be His voice, His arms, and His
heart. He chose YOU...'Now go, and give these precious lives
meaning'...The answer is actually not that difficult. You simply need to
treat your children the way GOD treats YOU. He does it in His grace."
